European Projects

We are involved in a number of interesting European projects.

Orion Innovations is a core partner in the consortium recently selected to deliver the INNOWATER project. INNOWATER is a public private partnership of public innovation agencies, water associations and technology specialists, innovation experts and eco-innovative cluster organisations, co-ordinated by the European Water Partnership (EWP), and supported by the EC Europa INNOVA programme.

There is an understanding that the commercialisation and market penetration of innovative technologies remain a challenge in the water and wastewater sector, and yet these will have a fundamental role in addressing future needs for a sustainable water supply, and climate change adaptation and mitigation throughout Europe.

INNOWATER has been set up to develop and test new and better support tools and delivery mechanisms for SMEs looking to commercialise their technologies and first user industries seeking solutions. The project involves partners from The Netherlands, Denmark, Cyprus, Spain and the UK. Read the press release here.

Orion Innovations is also a core delivery partner in another European consortium, responsible for the FP7 ProNano project. This project aims to validate new practices to remove major barriers to innovation within the nanotechnology sector. Specifically it involves working with European and national networks and platforms to identify potentially unexploited technology and know-how, and develop and test novel approaches to support their commercialisation. Ultimately the project is aimed at closing investment deals. The project is being managed by a consortium of innovation consultants and venture capitalists from the UK, Spain, Denmark, Italy, France and Germany.

Orion Innovations is part of the consortium that runs the Energy Technology Centre (ETC) at East Kilbride. In 2009, the ETC secured £2.6 million of European funding to develop and showcase sustainable building products and systems, including low energy construction products, lighting, heating and power systems. The money was awarded under the EU's Regain programme to promote the development of four sustainable building demonstration centres in Scotland, Wales, France and Belgium. The funding boost will see the centre double in size and undergo a complete refurbishment. Read the press release here.
