We are pleased to announce the launch of our paper: Building our Low-Carbon Industries: The benefits of securing the energy-intensive industries in the UK, at Congress House in London.
Commissioned by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Energy Intensive Users Group (EIUG), Orion Innovations undertook an economic, fiscal and employment assessment of the benefits of retaining energy intensive industries in the UK. As the third study in this series, it provides an analytical framework from which the case for supporting energy intensive industries in the UK can be made. As some of the largest polluters in the UK, EIIs are often perceived as energy inefficient. However, this is not the case. EIIs are driven to be energy efficient by the high cost of energy, and also contribute great value in terms of employment and economic benefits. To ensure the continuation of EIIs in the UK they require more competitive energy prices, greater encouragement for investment in energy efficiency and emissions abatement, and greater support to reduce carbon leakage through the loss of EII businesses overseas.
The report was very well received by all attendees and is set to provide a platform for debate with Government.
