Challenge
A North American Research and Development Agency was recently established in order to improve the quantity, quality and breadth of research, development and innovation within the region. Orion Innovations was commissioned to support the organisation in developing its initial strategy and defining its roles in relation to other organisations within the developing innovation system.
Approach
Orion Innovations developed an evidence base on which to establish the initial strategy, through two programmes of work:

A review and analysis of other jurisdictions in North America and Europe that were considered to be relevant, and best-in-class in terms of delivery of R&D and innovation support

A strategic assessment of current R&D activities and future potential within the organisation's own region
Outcome
Orion Innovations presented the findings of the study to key stakeholders, including representatives of the Government, via a programme of meetings
and presentations. The recommendations were well received and the client is initiating implementation.
