Preparation of a report to define the future potential landscape for renewable hydrogen in Scotland to 2050

Challenge

To define the future projected energy demand and supply needs for Scotland to 2050 in 10 year increments, and the role for renewable energy within the future supply mix.

Approach

The report made use of previous studies and publicly available data, together with the outputs of independent modelling using Bryte Energy’s proprietary FESA model:

  • Definition of existing knowledge base in terms of potential for renewable hydrogen in Scotland using existing sources of information and consultation with key stakeholders

  • Data validation using independent, proprietary FESA software; definition of potential scale and source of renewable hydrogen

  • Secured first-round funding from Angel and Institutional investors

  • Development and validation of a concise set of recommendations regarding the potential opportunity for renewable hydrogen in Scotland up to 2050

Outcome

A concise report was made available to all members of SHFCA. This was followed up by a workshop with c. 40 stakeholders and representatives to identify priorities for the development of a Hydrogen Roadmap for Scotland.
