Challenge
This internationally renowned University in the UK had identified an opportunity for a pan-University, cross disciplinary Institute to leverage their reputation and skill base in order to access larger SRC grants and funding, and also to attract in industrial research opportunities. However, they did not have the skills or the capability to validate and shape the opportunity, and to prepare a robust Business Plan in order to secure the resources to deliver.
Approach
Orion Innovations worked closely with a core team of academics to define the business proposition for the Institute, better analyse the competitive landscape within which they were operating, and produce a clear and robust market offering. Orion then developed a governance structure to deliver against an initial set of plans that would ultimately lead to the raising of significant third party finance to ensure the sustainability of the Institute.
Outcome
The Institute is now in the process of recruiting an MD to lead the next phase of market development.
