Michael's recent assignments include: conducting market and industry analyses and proposing an optimum business model for an Imperial College spinout with a drug structure prediction capability; providing patent infringement and validity advice for Imperial Innovations; leading an innovation audit of the Small Business Service, an agency of the DTI; examining the wind turbine industry to develop a framework of key business factors to be employed in emergent renewable energy businesses; and providing insights into competition and delivery models for a product supply chain carbon reduction labelling scheme.
Previously, as an in-house patent attorney for Kodak, Michael handled European prosecution of Kodak's ink jet media patent portfolio and provided design and patent clearance opinions for new products. Prior to joining Kodak, Michael spent four years with Beck Greener, a London firm of patent attorneys, where he consulted on strategies for negotiating intellectual property and licence terms to enable global licensing of pharmaceutical products and guided client companies and inventors in pursuing patent protection for pharmaceutical, medical device, polymer, catalyst and engineering solutions.

Michael is a Chemistry graduate of Edinburgh University and, in addition to being a qualified patent attorney, has an MBA from Imperial College London and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Nottingham University.
