Ian Bernard has more than 30 years’ experience in consultancy, operational management and strategic development of businesses within the water sector. He is currently Technical Director of EnEcSo Ltd and Business Development Director of SuperOx, and until recently was Technical Director at British Water where he joined with a mandate to develop and implement an updated British Water strategy that could meet the increasingly urgent environmental and sustainability challenges faced by the water sector.
Ian has particular expertise in business development, innovation, knowledge transfer, programme management, international technology transfer, European R&D networking/secretariat management, IP rights management and technical management (water, water treatment, water resources, wastewater, etc). These skills have been gained through working with a wide range of sector stakeholders, including utilities, consultancies, contractors, universities and trade association. In addition to British Water, former employers include Thames Water Utilities, UKWIR, environmental consultancies (EWS and ResTech), Concept Ltd, and Oxford and Birmingham City Universities.
An advocate of the Edwards Deming management philosophy, practising CSR and team working, Ian believes in an ethos of networking, collaboration and understanding market conditions, improving value chains and identifying customer needs to achieve results.
Ian is a former Council Member of CIWEM and Chairman of Central Southern Branch; a Chartered Chemist; Member of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC); and a member of UKTI’s Environment and Water Sector Advisory Group (EWSAG).
